The Client

Athena Kitchen Management

Athena Catering Solutions have developed an online platform for catering in prisons – Athena Kitchen Management (AKM). It helps prisoners choose their meals, lets kitchens order the right ingredients, provides recipes for chefs to follow and shows allergen information. What’s more it can be linked with behaviour, with inmates who have a good record winning the right to opt out of normal menus and instead order the ingredients to cook for themselves.

Athena Kitchen Management

The Problem

Athena Catering Solutions wanted a bright, concise brochure that would convince prison kitchen managers and governors to bring in the AKM system.

The Answer

We started with just a list of Unique Selling Propositions (USPs):

  • lower costs
  • less wasted food
  • easy to use
  • ensures compliance
  • improve behaviour

We needed bring the bland list of USPs to life. We used our 360-degree “think like the customer” approach to draw up compelling messages about the benefits to be felt in the kitchen and on the wing.

We even included a “Word for the governor” as well as vibrant examples of screenshots and how the platform could be used to incentivise good behaviour.

We sourced appealing images to bring the text to life, working in tandem with talented graphic designer David Barnett of Phidia.

The Result

Instead of the standard benefits that read just like any other corporate brochure, the finished brochure is bold and bright. The benefits to stakeholders are practically explained and clear to identify.

The brochure has been well received by both Athena Catering Services and their target audience.
